Healthy Ingredient Substitutes

Who doesn’t love to bake? Or to have the warm gooiness of a chocolate chip cookie melt in your mouth? Well now you can enjoy them without feeling guilty! Swap out some of your regular ingredients with some of the ones below and you’ll have one healthy, yummy holiday season!

Flour: Almond, brown rice flour, millet flour, whole wheat flour, quinoa flour, amaranth flour, coconut flour, oat flour, ten-grain flour, potato flour, sorghum flour, barley flour, corn flour, fava bean flour, black bean flour, garbanzo bean flour, green pea flour, hazelnut flour, soy flour, rye flour, buckwheat flour, corn flour, flour, spelt flour, kamut flour, tapioca flour, teff flour, white bean flour,

Oil/Butter: Unsweetened applesauce, Pureed tofu, flax meal or fruit puree (banana, mango, pumpkin, squash, prune, etc.)

Sugar: Organic sugar, honey, maple syrup, brown rice syrup, agave nectar, barley malt syrup, evaporated cane juice, black strap molasses, coconut sugar

Salt: Low-sodium salt

Brown Sugar: Granulated cane juice, sweet molasses, barley and brown rice syrups, maple syrup

Vanilla Extract: Vanilla bean, vanilla paste, almond extract, rum or brandy

Eggs: Egg whites, Egg-Beaters

Chocolate Chips: Dark chocolate chips, carob chips, chopped dates, cocoa or carob powder

Other Healthy Extras to Add in:

Unsweetened dried fruit

Ground flaxseed

Ground chia seeds




Ground coffee

Peanut butter, cashew butter, soy nut butter, almond butter, sunflower seed peanut butter

Cinnamon, Nutmeg, cayenne pepper, ginger, cumin, cloves, chai spice, pumpkin spice,

Sesame seeds
